Netbook – What is it and why would you want one?

jahlberg

A Netbook is a new description for a laptop computer which has a smaller screen (7 to 10 inches), which is lighter, and usually less expensive than a standard laptop. This may sound like a good idea, should you pick one up or stick with a standard laptop?

I got a chance to use one of the Asus netbooks. I have to say that I was impressed. The screen was excellent and bright, the performance was peppy, and the battery was awesome. I used the device at full brightness for nearly 2 hours and the battery indicator said that it still had 75% remaining capacity. If I would have done that with my Thinkpad, the battery would be about dead and I’m using the large extended battery that is “supposed to last 6 hours or more.

If you need a small, light, inexpensive laptop for home type use, then you might want to check one of these out. Asus has been selling them for years and is in the 3rd or 4th generation so that may be the best bet compared to the new offerings from Dell.
