Did You Know…How To Protect Your Data Before Stepping Away

Task: You have confidential or personal information stored on your computer that you want to keep safe when you step away.  You have personal or confidential data up on your screen and you need to step away, but after saving your work you hate to close it all  just to pull it back up when you return.

Solution: Keep  people from seeing what is on your screen or accessing your computer when you step away by ‘Locking’ your computer with your password.  Keeping PC security in mind not only protects company data but also any personal information stored on your machine. 

  Your screen will go from this:                         To this, after locking your computer:

How:  “Lock” down your computer with your password.  Lock your computer with one of these 2 options below:

Option 1 – Windows/L:

On your keyboard, press and hold the “Windows Button” (below)

Then press the “L” letter key (below)

                               lock wks3 

Now your screen will be locked displaying the password screen instead of your open desktop.  

To unlock the screen, just follow the on screen instructions – Enter your ID and password.

Option 2 – Ctrl/Alt/Delete:

On your keyboard, press and hold the “Ctrl”, “Alt”, and “Delete” buttons (below)

Then click on “Lock this computer”

Now your screen will be locked. 

To unlock the screen, just follow the on screen instructions – Enter your ID and password
